Retirement Road Trip, Days 3 & 4 - Into the West

A hundred and eighty miles from North Platte, we caught our first glimpse of the Rocky Mountains.  Before long, we were past Denver and climbing to over 10,000 feet on dry pavement under sparkling blue skies, just the way we wanted it.  It's forty-three degrees.

At the Red Mountain Inn (Glenwood Springs, CO), I learned from Art at the front desk that no one he knows owns tire chains.  Everyone owns snow tires, which only last about three or four years.  Studded tires, he told me, are hard on asphalt, are really loud inside your car and cost a bundle - the price you pay to live in the mountains, I guess.

We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub under the stars.  It was very cold - single digits.

The Great Plains are far behind us.

Day four was an easy day, a little over two hundred miles to Moab, where we visited to Arches National Park.  I think Utah is one of the most beautiful states in the US.  I'll let the photos do the talking.

Two whole days with no visits to the emergency room!  We're feeling lucky.
